- Dear Joan and Family,The first time I met Darryl, he was a handsome, loud, whirlwind of a fellow, with a few too many tattoos for my liking. Joan, you were a shy, kind, gentle Novacastrian, and you and I bonded by hoping the Navy bus would have a little crash on the way, so we didn't have to face our respective naval officers.Who knew that you were made for each other! Darryl and, you, Joan, have always helped Ben, Kate and me, whenever the occasion arose. Helping us buy a house in Ashmore, mowing my lawns, always extending the hand of friendship.Thank you both for the lovely memories the past 57, or more, years have provided.My sincere condolences to you all.Love,Helen, Ben and Kate
