- Doug, I'm really sorry that I can't be there to farewell you on 17 April. I have very fond memories of growing up together as children before I left the nest to join the army at age 15. Even though you were 5 years older than me, you were always very kind and considerate towards me. I often reflect on one particular example of your kindness. This relates to your willingness to tolerate my wish to go through a pretend milking ritual each afternoon after school. Of course, we didn't have a herd of dairy cows grazing in the backyard of our house opposite the Pittsworth Primary School. Rather, as far as I recall, bearing in mind that my memory is a bit hazy given it was over 70 years ago, this daily event was focused more on the make-believe cream making process in the "dairy" we had set up in the garden shed.I remember I was pretty shattered when you broke the news to me that you wouldn't be able to continue with this daily dairy gig. However, you patiently and kindly explained to me that you needed to focus on your homework after school. My disappointment quickly passed and our childhood friendship continued unabated.Doug, I'm going to miss you big time. I console myself with the happy memory of catching up with you at Gwen's birthday bash at the Toowoomba City Golf Club in late January this year.Rest easy, love Trev
