  • To Cavesy's family, I am sorry that I can't be there to say goodbye to Cavesy today. He was so cherished by our family, as one of Josh's very best friends through 3 decades. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to Josh, Cavesy, you lived such a full life and fought hard until the end. You will truly be missed but I know Josh and the guys won't ever forget you.

PS growing up Josh always called James 'Cavesy' so that is how he has always been fondly known to me xx

  • Dear James, I’m grateful that our paths crossed. I remember meeting you as if it were yesterday how naturally we found our way into moments that shaped us both. We stood side‑by‑side through important times, shared meals, shared walks, and shared conversations. Your compassion ran deep, woven into the way you cared for others and moved through life with quiet grace. You touched my life in ways I will always carry with me. A piece of my heart walks with you now, wherever your journey leads. Go gently, dear friend, into whatever comes next. May peace walk beside you, and may the love you gave so freely find its way back to you, again and again.

  • Dear friends and family,

James had such a kind and welcoming presence. When I first started working at Child Safety, he approached me speaking Portuguese, proudly telling me about the many Brazilian friends he had made while living as an expat in England. From there, we shared many lunches together—talking about work, life, our struggles, and the things we had in common.

He once told me he hoped to find love, and I even tried to set him up with a friend. They went on a few dates, but it didn’t progress. Life took us in different directions for a while, and then we found ourselves working together again at Corrections. He told me how happy he was to be part of this new organisation and how proud he felt wearing the blue uniform. He was always delighted with the meals and often went back for seconds. I would tease him, “James, watch your figure,” and he would laugh and say the food was too good to resist.

He told me that, for the first time in his life, he felt truly happy in his career and could see himself working at Corrections for the long term. I visited him a few times in hospital, and he shared his fear of not being able to return to work. I encouraged him to focus on his recovery and reassured him that everything else could wait. Sadly, the illness took him from us far too soon.

James, I am deeply sorry that you are gone. You will be missed—your warmth, your humour, your stories, and the joy you brought into the everyday moments.

    Rest in peace, my friend.

  • Dear James,  Even though we only knew each other for a short time, my life has been truly blessed for knowing you.  From my very first day at LVCC, your kindness, personality and passion for your job helped both new co-workers and the people we worked with on a daily basis.  Your presence, sense of humour and love of snacks and food in general will be greatly missed by all of us. xoxo

  • Dear James,

Throughout life we often ask why our lives cross paths with particular people.
I give thanks that my daughter had the opportunity to cross paths with yours.
She often told me how you were both a good friend and you were the brother she never had.
You both enjoyed each other's company, humour and regular banter.
May you rest in peace James, always knowing you were much loved, respected and a sincere and true friend.
