So old fella, my uncle with another inquisitive mind, and happy glint in the eye..You are through the veil on the other side now, but I know you are still looking over us.I remember as a kid the hours you & I spent on that radio set you built in the side room talking to folk far away... And the engineering marvels you built and showed me when I came back from Uni on weekends.You were always there, and strong, welcome and much beloved presence in the background.Of all of them - the predominant memory is when I was in Grade 1 and wanted to swim in the 'Big Pool' like my cousins, your sons...You walked beside me all the way, from shallow to deep end of that Millmerran pool. I remember to this day your sandals walking beside me every time I turned my head to breathe. I knew I was safe because I could see your feet. You stopped the many, MANY times I did, and above all, you were patient ... even though at 5/6 years old I must have looked like a drowned rat.And let's not mention the marvellous times you let us in that big tank at the Pool, (health & safety would not be happy) 🤫 Fab fun though! 🤫🫣But all these years away - I have never forgotten.Thankyou Uncle Bob, Thankyou for being there and being yourself with the mischievous glint in the eye.I will light a candle for you in the cathedral every week. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there to say my final goodbye to Uncle Bob, but please know you will be in my thoughts and heart.
